Raumid Fm

Period:
Carboniferous, Permian

Age Interval:
Bashkirian – Asselian (C?rm), R1

Province:
SE Tajik (SE Pamir)

Type Locality and Naming

It was identified in 1949 by B. P. Barhatov, who considered it conditionally Lower Paleozoic.

Synonym: Raumidskaya suite, Раумидская свита

Reference section:

Lithology and Thickness

The Raumid Fm is poorly studied. It is composed of irregularly interbedded dark gray, metamorphosed quartz-feldspathic sandstones and quartz-chloritic slates containing lenses of marbleized limestones. The incomplete thickness is 1000 m.

Lithology Pattern:
Sandy limestone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The base of the formation is not exposed.

Upper contact

It is covered conformably by marbleized limestones of the Permian? Shuvdarin Fm (шувдаринской свиты).

Regional extent

It is widespread in the Southwestern Pamir, in the Rushan Range.

Fossils

Organic remains have not been found in the Raumid Fm (раумидской свите).

Age

It was identified in 1949 by B. P. Barhatov, who considered it conditionally Lower Paleozoic. Later, B. P. Barhatov (1963) treated the Rushan complex in the age interval of Carbon to Upper Triassic. V. I. Dranov (1963c) included this suite in the Carboniferous-Permian Rushan complex he had identified. * Its attribution to the Carboniferous system is conditional - based on its position in the section below the Permian? formations and due to the similarity in composition with the lower Carboniferous - Lower Permian Bazardarin Fm (базардаринокой свитой) of the South-East Pamir.
